Heroes in the Faith: Edie Iverson
Last week Edie Iverson went home to be with the Lord. Edie is the wife of one of the greatest ministers in the nation- Dick Iverson. Together they were a couple who dedicated their lives to build the local church. I attended Portland Bible College from 1991-1995, the final four years of them being the pastors of what is now known as City Bible Church. I was always amazed at how in a church as large as City Bible how Sister Edie seemed to know everybody and made a big church seem like a big family. You could always tell how much she loved to share with the church about different people in the church during the “members in particular” part of the service. She is a true hero in the faith and I know her legacy will live on in the lives of those she both inspired and touched in her own special way. Please join with me in praying for Pastor Iverson & the Iverson family during this time.
Advent Conspiracy pt. 2
Well, as of today our church has given over $60,000 to organizations that are making a difference in our world. By the way that’s just since December 1st. Can you believe it? In a time of economic chaos the church has stepped up to needs around the world. I want to thank Mount Zion/Cornerstone for their mind blowing generosity! I am simply amazed. The $60,000 total doesn’t include what has come in for Living Water International. I also wanted to thank our church for their incredible example of selfless giving. I know people in the church that have said not to buy them a gift this year so that money could be donated to organizations like Love146 and Smile Train. Inspiring!!! I have had a lot of people asking if we could please do this again next year. The answer is yes! I’ll share more about some of the charities we gave to over the next couple of days. Merry Christmas to everyone!
Advent Conspiracy part 1
I know, I know, many are you were wondering if i was ever coming back. Well here I am.I just couldn’t help but write on how impacted I have been over the last couple of weeks. For the last four years our church has done “christmas” themed series and they have been pretty good. However, there is something just awesome about this series we are in . Our church is in a series called the Advent Conspiracy. We stole the name (with permission of coarse) from a project from a church out west. We took the name but we are doing our own thing. In addition to having great organizations like Smiletrain.org and Love146.org at our weekend services over the past couple weeks, our church is also giving $25,000 away to 25 different charities every day of December leading up to December 25. Ill write more over the next few days but I just thought I would share what we have done so far. In a time of economic uncertainty and despite the fact we don’t exactly live in one of the most prosperous places in the nation our church has already given $50,000 and we are only 15 days in to it! I’ll give more details over the next couple of days! Thanks Mt Zion/Cornerstone for your incredible generosity!
