bk879fc.jpgHere is a simple but profound concept. Something that is well said, requires work, yet is the answer to solving many of the problems we face emotionally and spiritually. Here’s what all of us need: truth and grace in quality relationships over time. This is the beginning of the book Changes that Heal that sucked me in. I first heard about the book from Nancy Ortberg, but then got it after a recommendation from Dr. Cloud himself. I picked up the book and was so engrossed I read it in two sittings. The next day I came to staff meeting and shared with our staff the incredible revelation I believe Dr. Cloud has. I cant overemphasize how life-changing and clarifying this book was for me. At the risk of sounding exaggerative, I have to say I literally believe every pastor and every Christian should read this book. The book reenforced to me the value of developing and maintaining strong relationships as well as how important small groups are in the church. Often times small groups are talked about as a means to numerical growth. I believe numerical growth is a side affect of personal growth of a church. While you can be emotionally healthy and spiritually unhealthy, I believe it is impossible to be spiritually healthy without being emotionally healthy. If my opinion counts for anything with you, I highly recommend getting this book. Buy.com has a paperback edition for 3.93. How you gonna beat it? You can’t! If you don’t believe me look at Josh McDowell’s recomendation on the front of the book!
